Monthly bookkeeping

Categorised, reconciled and closed on the same schedule every month, with statements in your inbox once the month is closed.

The work is done in QuickBooks Online by a Certified ProAdvisor. If your file needs fixing before a monthly rhythm makes sense, that is scoped separately.

What it covers

Monthly bookkeeping is the ongoing work that keeps your books current instead of letting them pile up until April. Every month, the same rhythm, so nothing turns into a surprise at year end.

  • Every transaction categorised against your chart of accounts
  • Every bank, card and payment account reconciled to its statement
  • Accounts payable and receivable kept current
  • A profit and loss, balance sheet and cash position at close
  • A short written note on what moved that month and why
  • A year-end package your CPA can file from

How a month runs

Read-only feeds from your bank, cards and payment processors land in your ledger, so the raw data arrives without anyone keying it in. Accounts are matched to statements and transactions to accounts. Anything genuinely unclear comes back to you as one short list rather than forty separate emails.

Statements arrive every month. The process page walks through it step by step.

Read-only means read-only. The feeds I use can see your transactions and nothing else. No money can be moved from your accounts through them.

Who it suits

Owner-run businesses that have outgrown doing it themselves at the kitchen table, but are nowhere near needing someone in-house. If you are reconciling at midnight, or you genuinely do not know what last month looked like until your accountant tells you in spring, this is the service that fixes it.

If your books are already behind, start with catch-up and cleanup. Monthly work begins once the ledger is current, and the two are quoted separately.

What it costs

A flat monthly fee, from $200 for a straightforward set of books. It is never hourly, and it does not change unless the scope changes and you have approved it. The three things that move the number are transaction volume, how many accounts and entities are in play, and the condition of the records. See how pricing works.
